email addresses remain used after profile deletion

I've been testing Dolphin 5.6. I made some test profiles, mucked around a bit, deleted them, tried to make some more using same email addresses and the program still thinks the email addresses are used by existing user.

Been reading alot about bugs in Dolphin software, hope I dont have to go and get a degree in IT to understand your answer.

No, don't need an IT degree for this ...

Because "emal address" is one of the ways you can log into the Dolphin System, duplicate email address, NickName and ID are not allowed. If you tried to reuse your email address on a different account, you should have received something like the following error message:

E-mail address doesn't seem to be valid or E-mail confirmation failed or E-mail used by another member.

Just looked at your post a second time and see a different question ...

Normally, the Database cleanup utility in periodic folder runs to clean up the database, including deleting profiles. I think the reason your Dolphin is thinking that the email is still in use is because that utility has not run yet. How did you delete the profiles you said you deleted?

let me know,

I deleted it from admin panel. I was thinking the same thing you proposed but the next day, still the same. I went into mysql databases and done a search of the whole database for my email addy.......nothing there. Yet even though there are currently no profiles in the database......all deleted......I can not use any of the email addresses that I originally used to set them up.

As far as I'm concerned.......the whole thing of not being able to reuse an email address is flawed.....what if someone wants a couple of different profiles....but especially if they delete the profile......they should be able to reuse the email address.

While I'm here.....honest opinion.....for a dating site....version 5.6 or version 6....on the basis of which is less buggy and easier to set up and maintain ?

check the cache folder...

Hello, If you are sure the profile is gone from the Profiles table, you might want to check the "cache" folder and delete anything in there.

Honest Opinion. Dolphin 6 is not a dating site script anymore. If you are looking at a relatively stable, fixable, platform that really IS free, then I would suggest sticking with 5.6.0005. Dolphin 6 is NOT the same code base as 5.6 anymore. I was completely changed with 6.0.0003 and with the release of 6.0.0004, I am guessing it is incompatible with Dolphin 5. Dolphin 6 is Boonex' idea of social networking with a volume logic with no concern or thought about quality whatsoever.

If you are looking for an "adult" community, you definitely don't want to consider Dolphin 6. The lack of "privacy" which was stripped out to add all the "group" infrastructure would hardly be an option you would want to have. Even the private photo structure was removed from the Dolphin 6 so that should give you some idea of the priority at Boonex. Ironically, adult sites is what got Boonex the $$$ to expand into the Social Networking arena. When their marketing guys figure out how to generate $$$ from 10's of thousands instead of thousands (which is where aeDating was maybe five or six thousand paying customers), they dumped the whole aeDating fiasco and introduced Dolphin. The introduction of Dolphin was about as far away from a "dream come true" for aeDating owners, myself included, as you can get. It was HUGELY buggy, didn't work like the aeDating 4.1.4 and didn't have any templates for months after it was released.

The Boonex fiasco migraiton from 5.0 to 5.6.0005 was nothing short of painful and the majority of the releases they did were either incomplete, didn't work or so buggy you couldn't get your site up and running. Exactly like aeDating 4.1.4 which was the ONLY stable aeDating release, though still pretty buggy, Dolphin 5.6.0005 was about the best release they have ever done in spite of the fact that you can find lots of bugs in it, you can make it work to satisfactorily run a traditional dating site with a plethora of features that are necessary for a site focused on the business of dating.

For a pure dating site, Dolphin 5.6.0005 has all the functionality you can reasonably expect from a dating site membership.

The target demographic for Dolphin 6 is just about as far away from "dating" as you can get with all the "doodah" widgets etc etc that are focused on attracting teenagers who are not sophisticated enough to want or need or know how to use a site focused on purely dating.

I think the volume concept doesn't work with a dating site, at least not in the sense that we see with all the "so called" social networks proliferating. I am pretty sure that only a few of them are making any $$$ and Boonex, in spite of what they are telling people on their blog site, they are not the industry leaders in social networking. To be sure, they are clone making wannabees but MySpace, AOL, Facebook and a few other are the ones making the big $$$ not Boonex, though I would argue that Boonex is making $$$ while their customers struggle with trying to keep their sites running. I have my doubts about using Dolphin 6 as anything more than a toy. Besides that, I don't think it has the horsepower to run hundreds of thousands or millions of connects like the big guys do routinely. In fact, I don't know of ANY wildly successful site running Dolphin 6 software frankly. I might be wrong but don't know ...

Having said all that, I still think a stable dating site can be developed and a business supported with Dolphin 5.6.0005 if you expectations are simply to provide a quality dating service for a specifically targetted demographic. I know lots of site that are happily providing such a service to their clients with it and without all the social networking hype as well.

You will notice that some of the best run dating operations on the planet shun and downplay or outright denounce social networking, take eHarmoney for example. They will tell you outright that they are NOT a social network and are only interested in providing a quality dating service for their membership. I think I read that they didn't really want any clients who were only interested in social networking because it was not possible to support social networking functionality on their site.

Sounds like you know your stuff

I've been researcing and basically the feeling out there on all the boards is that Boonex is somewhere between grossy imcompetent and careless about the quality of their products......or are producing these bug riddled products on purpose as part of some ingenious plan to actually rake in more bucks from the endless upgrades, mods, etc that one has to apply in the pathetic attempt to keep their lemon site running. Of course, the more time one invests working on this project......the harder it is to walk away and admit you got had.

The other small group of people on the boards that are saying nice things about Dolphin, are the people who are also making bucks offering their patch up services to people that are desperately trying to get their sites running.

I'm also considering osdate. I haven't heard much bad about osdate. I just became aware though that there is no facility to moderate photos uploaded for profiles......gallery etc......prior to them been made available for viewing. I definately want that feature as my proposed site is going to be along the lines in content of
Code:
Content visible to registered members only. Please Click Here To Register
or
Code:
Content visible to registered members only. Please Click Here To Register
.

I got Dolpin 5.6 running, installed the adult templat...made some visual changes etc.......setup paypal and got that working.....but then on creating dumby profiles and testing etc.....the bugs crawl out of the woodwork. I also got osdate......uploaded......ftp access but no shell......huge.......then......install failed and I dont understand the errors........I'm no programmer......takes me all my time to work out how to put a dot on the screen with anything more complex then frontpage.

I assume you have or know all the patches......and the patches that go on the patches.......needed to get Dolpin 5.6.5 going. If thats the case I'll have to ask what sort of rate you charge for a set like......Dolphin 5.6.5 with intergrated phpbb templated to fit in with my dolphin design.......and flashchat instead of Ray chat. Practically everyone without exception says that Ray and Orca are dog shit. Since they dont work at all on my install.......I'd have to agree.

PM or email me if you want to keep your offer private....if you have an offer that is.

Regards

Stu
