What's the story on Dummy Profiles?

Many sites today including most of the big guys use dummy profiles to boost the numbers to entice new visitors to join their service. What's your take on it?

I agree with this way actually, because an empty site to start with, is very difficult to get attention from visitors. And I would like to make a suggestion to you, that to start a business of profile sharing; any site would register with that network to agree to share profiles with other sites for a small charge or a percentage of the new commers, and the sites would join, should tell their customers that they are doing that, from the business point of view. I think members won't mind that because they will get much more profiles to see in the site, thus more chance to meet the right person for dating.
Think about it and let me know. Thanks

I think members ought to know that their profiles are being shared...

I actually did that on one of the sites that I run and it was on a one for one but it got a little sticky because the other site only wanted specific profiles from targeted geographies, like all women from China but no men from UK. I did about a handful and they complained about the email addresses of the profiles I supplied. Ultimately I let it go and I don't think it did anything to boost my numbers not to mention that when someone on my site sends a vkiss to any of the "swapped" profiles, the emails come back user unknown mostly.

I guess if you are talking about hundreds or thousands even, the benefit would be volume but I am still not sure it generates number by itself.

my 2 cents...

Ok, if you say so from your experience, but it's still a valuable thing to do for new dating sites, if you appreciate the point of starting with some kind of number profiles to make the site look better at least, even if they are dead profiles, but that will show it as a busy site from the begining not completely empty, so won't get any attention. It would build up some profiles, yes, but that will take some good time. I will think about a solution and let you know.
I like the idea of your site and the way it can help all dating sites, specially the new ones. Thanks
